| As
development pressures change the face of the Belgrade Lakes region, it is imperative
that we act now to protect our traditional way of life and our most valuable natural
treasures. The land is our heritage, and the richness of its wildlife and natural
landscape has shaped the character of our communities and of our people. All of
us benefit whenever we take collective action to protect the resources that make
this part of our state a special place to live and visit.
Investing in the campaign to preserve the Kennebec Highlands will
yield lifelong dividends: the assurance that Vienna Mountain won't
someday be covered by suburban sprawl; being certain that your
grandchildren can fish for trout in Mclntire Pond; knowing that
deer will continue to find wintering grounds here and that loons
will call across the ponds.
Help
preserve the Kennebec Highlands for future generations and you will have the satisfaction
of contributing to the health and heritage of your community.
'The
time has come for us to do for our grandchildren what Percival
Baxter did for us by preserving those special places throughout
Maine that so much define us as a people. If we don't, again we'll
turn around some day and wonder where Maine went.'
Former Governor Angus King
